Who We Are -

Gamma Iota Sigma (ΓΙΣ) is a collegiate professional fraternity founded on April 16, 1966, at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. As an international organization, it is dedicated to promoting, encouraging, and sustaining student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science as career paths. The fraternity was established with the goal of becoming "the insurance industry's premier collegiate talent pipeline."

The vision for a national scholastic insurance fraternity began to take shape in 1965 when the Griffith Foundation for Insurance Education filed for incorporation. The following year, the OSU Insurance Society—originally established at Ohio State University in the early 1960s—successfully petitioned to become the first chartered chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, henceforth known as the Alpha Chapter. The fraternity's mission is to "promote and sustain student interest in careers in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science."
